2017 JAMB: How To Buy Your Form and Register With Less Strees

This year's JAMB registration is very different.

Before, you will just walk into a cybercafé and do everything there. Very easy.

But this year, a lot has changed: JAMB  registration is now more confusing and stressful.

This blog post will help you remove the confusion, and ease the stress.

You will discover how to make your registration faster and less stressful.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Please Note: I’m working on an article that will show you how to dramatically increase your chance of getting admission this year – even if you’ve filled your form.

When it’s ready, I will announce it in our group and e-mail list. So join so that you don’t miss out.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

To make your registration easier, follow these steps;

1.     Make the major decisions and fill your JAMB template
2.     Create your JAMB profile
3.     Buy your form (pin vending)
4.     Complete your registration

You fill your template at home

you create your profile with your phone... or your computer... or a cybercafé.

You buy your form in a bank

You complete your registration at any CBT Centre

Most people try to do all 4 at the CBT Centres - and you can. But the stress and the pressure will be too much on you.

They may rush you and make you make mistakes. You may even end up making choices that you may regret later.

In fact, some CBT centres won't even attend to you until you've created your profile and vended your pin.

Imagine registering your form in front of a computer operator who has more than 200 people to attend to.

The last thing he wants is any extra work or "time waster".

Now let's go into details and discuss how to go through these 4 steps...

STEP 1: Filling  your JAMB Template

JAMB template is a form-like paper from JAMB that helps you decide and write down your details.

It looks like a form. In fact, you can even call it a form.

But don't get confused o. It's NOT JAMB form. In fact JAMB doesn't even need it.

You only need it to make things easier for you - and the computer operator at the CBT centre.

It lists out all the information that JAMB will need from you.

Here is how it looks like...

After downloading, please print it out. You need it.

If you don't have a printer, go to any cybercafé near you.

If you look at it closely, it contains your basic information like; name, age , address, contact details etc. These ones are self explanatory.

But you may need guidance on these 3 sections;

  • Institutions of Choice
  • O'Level Results
  • Course And Subject Combination

Let's start with your...

Institution of Choice

You have the option of choosing 4 institutions maximum.

These institutions can be...

  • Universities
  • Polytechnics
  • College of Education or...
  • Innovative Enterprise Institutions
Around the internet, you may have heard people saying that you can't choose 2 federal universities.

They say you can choose only one Federal and one State or Private University.

Well that's NOT completely true.

Yes! You can choose a maximum of 2 universities. But some universities don't accept 2nd choice. You don't even see them in the 2nd choice option.

These Universities are usually the most in-demand; Universities like UNIBEN, UI and UNILAG.

You are free to make all your 4 choices Innovative Enterprise Institutions (IEI)

For College of Education (NCE), you can choose a maximum of 3.

For Polytechnics (ND), you can't choose more than 2.

Now let's talk about...

Your O'Level Results

On this matter, here are some of the biggest questions on most JAMBites' mind...

Can I Use Awaiting Result?

Yes and no.

If you’re writing any exam this year and it will come out before the end of August, then you can.

WAEC, NECO and NABTEB will come out before then.

So if you’re writing any of them, you can register. Immediately the result comes out, you will need to go to your JAMB profile and update it.

If you’re writing GCE you can’t register. GCE usually comes out in November.

Also, you need to get at least C6 in all the 5 subjects relevant to your course and institution of choice.

If the result comes out and you get below C6 in any of them, you will lose the admission – even if you get 400 over 400 in JAMB.

Can I Combine Result?

Yes. In fact, you can now combine the same exam of different years.

For example, let’s say you wrote WAEC in 2011 but didn’t make English. Then you wrote another WAEC in 2015 and made English. You can use bother results to register.

But one sitting is better than two sittings.

Since JAMB scrapped post-UTME, they now add your WAEC score and number of sitting when grading you.

So one sitting gets higher mark; thus a higher chance of getting admission.

Another big question is...

What Course Should I choose and What Are Their Subject Combination?

You need to consider certain things before answering this question.

Firstly, your secondary school background and your personal vision:

  • Were you a science, art or commercial student? What subject did you write in your SSCE exams (WAEC, NECO and NABTEB)?
  • How many subjects did you pass and how well did you pass them?
  • Are you looking for a course that will give you the biggest fulfilment or is it a course that will give you the biggest money and prestige you want? Are you looking for a course that balance both?

So you need to carefully consider these things. You also need to ask...

  • The subjects I passed in my SSCE, what courses can I study with them?
  • Considering money, prestige and fulfilment; which ones do I like most?
  • Which Universities (or Polytechnics) offer them?
  • Which ones do I have a higher chance of getting (considering the competition, my SSCE grades and my connection)?
  • What is their fees like? Can I afford it?

Answering these questions with satisfaction will increase your chance of getting where you want: admission; graduation with good grades; and a satisfying job and career.

STEP 2: Creating Your JAMB profile

This step is where the actual registration starts.

I've written a detailed article with descriptive pictures on [link start] how to create your own profile by yourself [link closed]. You can go read it up.

You can also go to a cybercafé to do yours. They'll do it for you and charge you. Most won't charge more than N500.

To create a JAMB profile, you need to have an email address.

If you don't have one, you can open (sign up for) a yahoo or gmail account.

STEP 3: Pin Vending (Buying Your Form)

You do this at the banks, in NIPOST or in any JAMB office nationwide.

To the best of my knowledge, only Union Bank and Zenith Bank is selling. I've personally vended for people in these banks. It's N5,500.

Most people prefer Zenith Bank because they have more branches. So, they are easy to locate.

Before going to these banks, you need to print out that  email JAMB sent to you.

The one that looks like this...

If for any reason, you couldn't print it, just copy out your email, surname, first name and middle name.

Those are the information the banks need.

It’s better to go in the morning; before crowd gather. Banks usually open at 8a.m.

HOW TO BUY YOUR FORM IN ZENITH BANK

Walk into any Zenith Bank branch

Look  around (or ask anybody, preferably a staff) for the deposit slips. They’re usually in a paper tray in one corner of the bank.

Take one set.

Each set consist of 3 papers with different colours (white, blue and pink) placed on top of each other.

They look like this...

The blue and pink papers are also carbon papers.

So whatever you write on the white paper will automatically show on the blue and pink papers.

So you will write on the white paper. Here is what to write...

In the “Branch” column, write the name of the branch you’re paying into. If you don’t know, just leave it blank.

In the “Title/Name of Account” Section, write “JAMB Form” (don’t write it with the quotes o)

In the “Name of depositor” section, write your first, middle and last name. (the way you wrote it when you created your profile).

In the “Tel/Gsm No. Of Depositor” section, write your phone number.

In “Total amount in words” section, write “Five Thousand Five Hundred Naira Only”.

Leave “the account number” section blank.

Now I want you to notice the “cash only”, “NAIRA” and “Total” sections.

In the “total” section, write 5,500

The “Cash Only” and “Naira” section is where you give details about the naira notes you are paying. I f you don’t understand how to fill it, just leave it blank.

But here is how to fill it...

Let’s say, for example, that the N5,500 you want to pay contains four N1,000 note; one N500 note; three N200 note’ two N100 note and four N50 note.

You will calculate it this way...

N1,000 x 4   = N4,000

N500 x 1       = N500

N200 x 3       = N600

N100 x 2       = N200

N50 x 4          = N200

So...

Beside the N1,000 column, you write 4,000

Beside the N5,00 column, you write 500

Beside the N200 column, you write 600

Beside the N100 column, you write 200

Beside the N50 column, you write 200

When you’re done, join the depositors’ queue.

Just ask anybody (a staff, if possible). They will show you.

I like doing this before going to fill my slip.

I usually ask, “Please, who is the last person?” when they show me, I tell the person, “Please, I’m behind you.”

I do this because, while you are filling your slip, more people are joining the queue.

So by joining first before going for the slip, you shorten your time at the bank.

When it’s your turn, give the teller (that is, the attendant in the counter) your slip, your money and the email print out.

If you were unable to print it out, just write out your details (surname, first name, middle name and email) on a sheet of paper and hand it over.

It’s better to write this before it’s your turn to save time and make things faster.

Wait for them.

They will work on your details and give you a paper that looks like this...

They will also give you the blue and the pink slip.

Ask anybody for where to drop the pink slip. They will show you a box with a small hole.

Put it in the hole and keep the blue one.

That’s it.

Take the printed paper to any CBT center and completer your registration.

HOW TO BUY YOUR FORM IN UNION BANK

It’s similar with Zenith bank.

Walk into any Union Bank branch

Look  around (or ask anybody, preferably a staff) for the deposit slips.

They’re usually in a paper tray in one corner of the bank.

Take one.

It looks like this...

Here is what to write...

In the date section, write the days date.

In the “Currency” section, tick naira

In “Account Name” write “JAMB”

Leave the “Account Number” blank.

In “Amount in Figure” section, write “N5,500”

In “Amount in Words” section, write “Five Thousand Five Hundred Naira Only”

In “Depositor’s name” write your name.

In “Phone number”, write your phone number.

Leave the rest blank.

Like this...

They will work on your details and give you a paper similar to the one zenith bank gives.

That’s it.

Take the printed paper to any CBT center and completer your registration.

STEP 4: Complete Your Registration at any CBT centre.

Here is a list of all CBT Centers in Nigeria and their contact details.

They will also take your thumb print and complete the registration for you.

They will charge you N700 for their service. If you are interested in JAMB’s mock exam, you pay extra N700 (it’s optional).

I’ve NOT been to any of them. So everything I know about it is based on what I gathered from those who have.

From what I gathered, the crowd can cut your “liver”. So you have to go very early.

Also, every center has their mode of operation.

Some will allow you to pay cash. Others will prefer that you pay into their bank account.

So when you get to any center, ask questions.

There was a case of a girl who got there by 8a.m. By 3p.m, It was her turn.

It was when they asked her for her deposit slip that she realized that the center doesn’t collect cash.

She couldn’t register that day again.

After your registration, they will give you a CD that looks like this...

It contains JAMB brochure, syllabus, career advice and many other information.

You will need a computer to view it.

They will also give you novel, “In Dependence” by Sarah Ladipo Manyika. Questions will come out from it.

The back may look like this...

OTHER BASIC INFORMATION

The registration will end on Wednesday, 19th April. The exam will start on May 6th and end 20th May.

Direct entry registration will start on Sunday, April 23rd.

Finally, you need to pray, study, take enough rest and believe in yourself.

I wish you all the best.
